Heron Island, a very small island, 2 hours by boat from Gladstone. The island in on the reef, which means that directly from the beach you can swim with sharks, stingrays, color ful tropical fishes amongst of beautiful corals. One resort only, so no crowd. A much better experience than swimming from boat full of tourists on a day trip from Cairns to the Reef.
